The science

Two acids, two sizes, one routine

DuoClear™ is our own combination of 2% salicylic acid and 1% mandelic acid, formulated at a low pH so both stay in their active free-acid form. The two acids are different sizes and work in different places. Salicylic acid is small and oil-soluble, so it moves into oily pores. Mandelic acid is a larger alpha hydroxy acid that works more gradually at the surface for gentle exfoliation. Our proprietary blend puts them together in every use.

    DuoClear™ is the Neutralyze salicylic + mandelic acid system, shared by our Face Wash, Exfoliating Pads and Renewal Complex. In Renewal Complex it's time-released: the formula lets out the 2% salicylic acid (BHA) and 1% mandelic acid (AHA) gradually rather than all at once. Salicylic acid is oil-soluble and works in the pore to help keep breakouts from forming. Mandelic acid works at the surface to keep dull skin from building up. Released slowly, they give steady, gentle exfoliation in a leave-on moisturizer.

    3. Start slow: use once a day, then build to two or three times a day if needed. If dryness, peeling or irritation occurs, cut back to once a day or every other day.
